IoT and Smart Building Design(BMS): Analyzing the Current Advantages, Challenges and Future Impact of Doing What Works for Your Organization - Now
As the need for alternative work environments, climate awareness and environmental consciousness increasingly becomes a part of our daily lives, assessing and implementing the appropriate MEP system building management controls and operations management, could become greater in importance.
The encountered urgency of how we use and utilize the workplace for remote and onsite applications, manage the health of our workplaces and home environments and how we have been compelled to alternatively utilize them, has become far more than a function of comfort and leisure. It has perspectively become an issue of basic quality of life, a component of workplace preparedness and imperative in having the ability to adapt to educational efficiency.
Although the trend of IoT, Smart Building Design and Building Management Systems (BMS) has been increasing in awareness for some time, the application and abundance of cloud-based systems and operations, data storage and centers and their access, use and application, continues to be a challenged topic.
Suddenly, perspectively we are in a constant state of potentially perpetuated unprecedented change that may impact the way we interact, engage, and communicate for some time in the future.
Smart Building Design has been summarily described as “smart buildings or intelligent buildings, buildings of the future are any structure that uses integrated processes, smart engineering or creative design to self-regulate the building environment and operations. A human centered approach to design... “
IoT has been described as “the network of physical objects - “things” - that are embedded with sensors, software and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices … over the internet.”
One might conclude, we have been increasingly progressing towards this completely integrated technology for some time, and that would appear applicable, to an extent. The areas that appear to be of constant debate with regards to the application, allowable scope, and access, is its governance.
Given the various means upon how data is captured, some mentionable, some perceived, and the current climate, particularly as it relates to intellectual property(IP) and business development; it is a critical time to reevaluate and understand current technologies inclusive in IoT applications, smart building integrative design, data access and distribution and how it is being utilized and embark upon Assessing and Analyzing the Advantages, Challenges and Future Impact of Doing What Works for Your Organization - Now.
The following may assist in the assessment of some benefits, risks, and options available:
Understand the technical challenges inherent in the growth of your organization combined with requirements for its operations and evolution.
Assess the societal, intellectual, and human impact in the exchange of relevant information and any information that may be included in that exchange, that is not relevant to the exchange.
Evaluate the fiscal and future opportunities and implications of continued engagement or disengagement where applicable.
Undertake the realistic assessment of the current climate and what transactional circumstances were, are and could be, in the future. If positioning is situated in such a way upon which all is one, and one is all, without regard to business, person, or property, and whether the concept of organizational strategic optimization still exists in this regard, needs determination.
The importance of evaluating your organization's position, the assessment of industry trends and its evolution within the IoT/BMS/Smart Building collaboration and/or separation, will be helpful in moving your organization's products and services into a healthy and realistic future. NFB
